The value of integrating media literacy into various subjects and grade levels can’t be underestimated.

Some organizations warn of the dangers of woke as it relates to media literacy and other issues by adding the word critical to an otherwise well-meaning concept.

For example, conservative think tanks such as those who run the Manhattan Institute’s City Journal connect media literacy to “critical” media literacy to keep people ignorant about its purpose in schools.

After cherry-picking for egregious statements from media literacy advocates that define the unequal power structure in the United States in terms of “ruling by the elite,“ and other Marxist ideas, Sailer (2021) comments that “equipping children with the ability to understand the world is a laudable goal — one that critical media literacy would seriously impede.”
